Pediatric Dermatologist

This had to be the most low moments of my life, nothing is working on Geet’s infection and now she has some group of blisters in the entire hand.

We are not referred to Pediatric Dermatologist, I believe there is one in Bangalore ( may be Iam wrong ) The doctor did all the arrangement of calling the Pediatric Dermatologist, explaining the situation and most importantly explaining why this has to be treated as an emergency.

His name is Dr. Ravi Hiremagalur, and he visits Malathi Manipal & Main Manipal Hospital. We took an appointment with him and with visited him the next day.

He looked at it in detail and said it looked like Herpes Zoster Simplex ( even we made strange faces when heard ), he explained that these satellite like blisters, grouping and alignment all points towards this, but this is not likely to be found in kids, and if found only after the age of 2.

He said that this was a very rare case and even rarer that this Zoster Simplex started in the nail bed and now spread all across.

He took the samples of her skin and also collected the substance in couple of her blisters and gave for some reports, he told that we can wait for about an hour, while he will get the tests done immediately.

He was still confused as he went on saying that he has never come across this infection in infants nor has he heard, may be extremely rare, he repeatedly asked if either of us had chicken pox recently, but we never had chicken pox.

He again spoke to my Doctor in Wockhardt and explained the diagnosis, he gave us some tables (200mg) and told to grind them and mix it with milk and feed the baby in proportions as explained by him. Also one lotion which has to be applied after we clean the blisters with salt & luke warm water.

He assured that if the diagnosis was right, it should start showing signs of recovery within 48 hrs. and assured that it will sorted out as soon as possible and the Surgery may happen as scheduled.

We were relived :) , atleast we now knew what this infection was, but the such rare cases happening repeatedly to Geet was a little surprising, Her Bilateral Cleft Lip & Palate, Then her Tooth at 40 days and now this…

It was a freak infection, coz this infection could hamper her mail Cleft Lip Surgery, like Sachin getting Hitwicket after scoring 99 :P ( ahh men & cricket :P )

Nail Bed Infection

Ok This was the most Scaring day, the Nail and the entire finger is infected very very badly, It looks Rotten & Gross. It is confirmed that this is a Nail Bed Infection, but this can be caused from Bacteria or by Fungus.

To add the worried of Geet she has not got Diarrhea too, Doctor says that he cannot give High dose medication for this infection as it will increase the Diarrhea and this is not good for infants.

It pains to much to see her finger, its all black & filled with Blisters, I loved her tiny beautiful fingers so much and this finger I cant even stand to watch, imagine the Geet, cant even communicate.

This infection is suppose to be contagious, So we had to make sure that Geet’s hand does not come in contact with rest of her body and that is not easy to do. It was poor Vanitha who would be with Geet 24/7 to make sure that this proper Cream and attention was given to her.

While Vanitha was there with Geet, I had to communicate all this with proper pictures to the Surgeon there in UK.

This is an unique things about infants, things change so quickly you hardly have time to react, like she had .5cm tooth in just overnight. We were shocked at that time, that how can a 40 day old baby have a tooth all of a sudden, similarly, this small infection, within two days had taken over her complete finger and her hand.

We are now called to meet the Pediatric Surgeon to prick the finger and remove the puss while continuing the medication. I could not watch it :( , Vanitha told me to wait outside while She was Geet during the entire process.

I cant imagine that Doc actually pricked her finger to remove the puss, I hope there was other way, afterall she is just 3 months old..

Infection in Geet’s Hand

Late Posting

Geet has got an infection at her Nail, and within a night has spread to all her hand, When we rushed to the Doctor they said it looks like a Nail Bed Infection, man this was not good, just a week away from the Surgery and this Infection in her hand.

But the Issue here is that The Doctor think it’s a Nail Bed Infection but not sure on that, and with an infection Surgery cannot be done.

These were tense moments for us, we had to get this cured as soon as possible.

Car Accident

My Brand New Swift Car ( recently spent a bomb to get it all rectified ) met with an accident just outside Wockhardt Hospital.

Some College Guys driving what looked like an Indian version of Super Bike Crashed right into our car near the Passenger Seat.

Vanitha Shouted & Geet started crying not able to understand the sudden thump and noise all around.

Lucky it was slightly away from the door & none of them seriously injured.

Vanitha tried to open the door, but she could not, the dent avoided the door from opening, and an angry Vanitha specifically asked to show the license which those guys did not have.

The Estimated Cost was around Rs. 4,000/- they tried to play the Student card, I did not want to push it further and decided to have an very lame settlement.

He drove the bike without license, full speed, banged my car, but I still agreed to share 50 % of the cost and told him to pay 2k. Not that 2k makes any difference to me, but still I cant leave him just like that.

He again acted that he did not have cash, this time I went to my ancestral DNA and like one Marwadi told him to handover his bike or his mobile until he pays 2k or will take him to police.

Now I have his mobile, not worth more than Rs. 500 and a promise by him that he will repay in 7 days

Accommodation

No Matter how many websites you check, you finally end up with these as most recommended Hotels in Chelmsford.

  1. The County Hotel
  2. Premier Inn
  3. Best Western Atlantic Hotel
  4. Miami Hotel
  5. South Lodge Hotel
  6. & Some Spa

But one of the major issue with these hotels is that the Kitchen closes pretty early and we need hot water all through out the night and we are not exactly sure about getting the hot water from Kitchen for Geet’s milk & to Sterilize her Feeder.

There are many Indian Restaurants there in Chelmsford, but one look at the menu can make your head turn :) But it is obvious that when you pay in British Pounds in Fine Dining Indian Restaurants it will cost that much & Vanitha is not a big fan of dining at restaurants which has both Veg & Non Veg.

We finally decided to book the Service Apartments, It looked amazing, the reviews were all good, and the best part is that you have your own kitchen and Laundry. So No headache about Geet’s milk and we can also cook some stuff there.

The Price was at a higher side, but the advantages of living in a separate apartment could not be ruled out and to add that we can take the ready to cooks and still manage for few days atleast :P

The Washing Machine Facility there reduced some 30 % of our Luggage space and it is believed right at the City Centre making it even more stranger friendly :) I Exchanged some 20 mails shamelessly asking each & every detail of what is included and what is not but at the end I knew it was the right decision to book it.

Check out the website of the Service Apartments: http://www.chelmsfordservicedapartments.co.uk/

Airlines

It was the most easiest decision to make, there is one airlines that flies from Bangalore to London Non Stop n that is British Airways.

Even Kingfisher had Bangalore – London Direct flight, but they scrapped their service few months back :( , Personally I would have preferred Kingfisher coz of the food & offcourse of the feeling that Indian Arilines would be always better, however that is not there now.

So I booked over the phone and decided to make the payment by cash. I was suppose to make the payment at the Citibank Branch at MG Road. 45 min driving time and 30 min of waiting on the Q the cash was collected and my tickets were finalised.

The best part of this was the fare I got, 13K per head one way, Wow I thought that was definitely a good deal. So for two adults & one infant ( they charge of infant too ) To & Fro came to Rs.60K.

So overall this booking was good, as :-

  1. Lowest Fair
  2. One of the Top Airlines
  3. Direct Flight ( Lease Travelling Time )
  4. They offered Bassinets & Bassinet Seats
