The Reason Why I choose Wockhardt -

The Day of the Delivery :-
Experience in Short – The Best , Did not want to come back home…
Experience in detail , here it goes
TLC Package
First TLC Package was amazing, all throughout we were at ease – All our Consultation, Tests ( Apart from Triple Marker), Scans, Ante-Natal Classes, Lamaze and the ease that we don’t have to carry cash every time we visit hospital was something very important for me. Infact in many cases we were told to have repeated Scans and NST and some blood reports again none was charged. TLC also includes and New Born Screen Testing and the LDRP Room along with goodies was icing on the cake.
For those who think this works out more expensive, then I have a Comparison chart of the expenses with TLC and without TLC, it works out same and in some case even cheaper than the Pvt Room. Click here for the Comparison :- ( will update this link )
Ante Natal Classes
The Best Part of the TLC is that you automatically enroll to the Ante-Natal & Lamaze Classes. If this was not added and offered separately we would not have very keen on it. But since it was part of the package we decided to visit. It was amazing, Trust me the insight you get in those Ante-Natal Classes is very very informative.
A Classic example would be that my neighbor,Vanitha’s friend who was due around same date delivered just a day before. Middle of the night they called Vanitha and asked is she can take epidural – as her pains are very very severe, are there any side effects ?, how long should they wait ?. By the time we could explain the Doctors told that it was too late and she screamed all the way through her Labour. We knew everything about Epidural coz we had attended a session on this on Ante-Natal Classes. Not just this, there were so many things like Types of Labour, Tests During Pregnancy, Diet During Pregnancy, etc.. we were aware of which made us more confident and we were never at shock or taken by surprise at any point of time.

Lamaze Classes
Lamaze was the Ladies Day out. All Pregnant Ladies getting together and working our various exercises is fun first, a place to socialize and every weekend they discuss who delivered and was it normal or C Section… The classes also included various Breathing techniques, there would be a mini competition who can breathe the longest in zzzz breathing and OM breathing and the He Haw breathing was the one which would be bring maximum giggles. Husbands were called to assist the breathing during 8 n 9 month. This would also be a mini group consultation ie if any body has swollen feet, back ache, cramps etc,.
Admission Process
The admission was hassle free, I guess it took less than 5 min – may be coz we had taken TLC all our details were already there. They checked if we had insurance, I did not have so I guess there was no additional paper work. We did not have to pay any deposit as we have paid 10K during the 3rd month of the Pregnancy and that was enough.
LDRP Rooms
As we had taken TLC we have the option to book the LDRP Rooms, Obviously you cannot book when you don’t know when you are getting in labour but in cases like ours where they were planning to induce or in the cases of planned C-section, you can choose the Theme you want. Vanitha had chosen Yellow, but that was booked and they said it will be available by 6th eve and then we took the Blue Room. After the delivery Aparna said that the room was available and if we wanted we can shift, we then shifted to the Yellow Colour ( Autumn Theme ) LDRP Room.
The Rooms were very clean, The Bathrooms also very hygienic. The bathroom also had emergency calling button to the Nurse Station both at the Shower and at the EWC.
These are pictures of the Blue / Winter Theme LDRP Room
Even the Bathrooms were in the same colour theme
We later changed to Yellow theme Autumn Theme LDRP Room
Cleanliness
The Hospital, The Room, The Bathrooms, the Linen, Towels etc everything was clean. The House Keeping Staff would visit atleast thrice in a day to clean and later the House Keeping In- charge would personally meet you and check your satisfaction level with regard to Cleanliness. They also provide Slip-ons, and Toiletries like Paste, Brush, Soap, Comb, just like they do in Hotels. The gown are also changed everyday ( obviously ) and they were not funny looking
though Vanitha has the rare talent of looking funny in every dress possible
Food
Doctors visiting us would suggest the Food and then The Dietician takes over from there. When our Doctors says liquid Food only – she gets Coconut Water, Juice, Veg Soup ( without vegetables ) I guess the water in which they boil, something like that :S. First day was liquid food, second day was soft food, third day she said vegetables, and fourth day was normal food.
No Outside Food allowed, They were very very strict in this. Even the food from the canteen was not allowed inside the rooms. The Quantity & Quality of Food was really good. Vanitha would have the tummy full and then I would finish the balance. It serves 1.5 persons
. Fruit Juices, Coffee, Milk everything would serve two of them. Even the Straws were sterile packed
The Staff were also very well behaved, polite and in proper attire including masks and caps.
Nurses
This was the best part of our Stay in the Hospital. The Nurse Station is just opp our LDRP Rooms and always available, they were very polite and very eager to help. They are there imd on call and would cater to you with smile. Infact anywhere you see them they would smile ( No I was not trying to flirt with them ). Every single time the bottle had to be stelised or even the diapers to be changed the Nurses would be there.
In our case a special word for the NICU Nurses, they took of the baby well, the second day they showed us how to feed and told Vanitha to try. Third day they would come to our room and feed the baby and again teaching us about the upright position, burping, how to use the Special Bottle, etc. Infact when the baby cried a lot, they would imd come and feed the baby. Vanitha not only learnt how to feed the baby with the special bottle but also learned to tell “ Yarramma Ma 0r Yennamma Ma” something that Nurses would tell to the baby while feeding
The Visiting Doctors
Every day Dietician would come, then Neonatal Pediatrician, then Pediatrician, the Duty Doctors and then our Dr Mangala Ramchandra, every single day. We also had visitors from the Radiology Department to see how the Cleft & Palate looked and also from the Orthodontist and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Physiotherapist Dr. Garima had visited her twice during her stay and told her what to do and what not to do including some exercises.
Goodies
One of the features of the TLC package is the goodies you get from there, we got a few when we took the TLC Package ( Click here – http://ekkhwab.com/2009/01/28/tlc-package-the-nest-wockhardt/
Here also we got some Goodies, I know and Iam aware that these goodies are from the cost I pay them, but the point is they do not say we are going to give these – so you still feel good and more importantly after delivery they provide with stuffs that will take care of the baby for atleast a week. So you dont have to run around and buy the diapers, Dress, Bed, etc, That I think is very important. We had time to settle down and buy stuff much later and did not panic and buy. Here are the goodies given in TLC :-
They had given Pink Cradle but we choose the blue one
They also gave one Birth Certificate ( that is not the official one ) and also one Photo Frame with the Picture of our Baby.
Billing
Every time I was treated so well I had a lil concern over the bill. I have heard that in some hospitals the bills go way too high that what they promise. 11th Monrning we had to discharge but we were till Noon
again enjoying the Breakfast and Coffee and Juice
The billing was done by Aparna.
The total Bill came upto Rs. 73 K including my advance of Rs. 10,000/-. So we paid the balance Rs. 63k. Hmm Rs. 1,000 more than what was in the package.
Actually it was only Rs. 750 more as the medical consumables exceeded the limit they have by Rs. 750 and then we had bought 500 Gm Nestle Nam worth Rs. 250 from pharmacy – that was added in this bill.
Overall the TLC package was Rs. 72k and we paid 72.7K. Iam Ok with that on any given day.
Wait this is not it, The Baby was in NICU for 3 days. Reason being that the Baby has Bilateral Cleft and Palate and for the first few days we had to feed her with a tube. That was separately billed, but surprisingly they charged only for 2 days as she was taken in NICU on 6th night and given back to our LDRP Room on 8th Eve. I was expecting that they will charge everytime I went to NICU with the baby to get her fed or every time the NICU Nurses came to our Room for Feeding – but non of them were charged. Overall there were no Surprises for us when it came to Billing
Is this it?
No, The Package also includes Vaccination during the birth, it included the New Born Screening which detects the possibility for the baby to have any diseases and also includes a Follow up Visit to the Gynecologist and also includes the consultation with Pediatrician for the next three months.
Is TLC Worth?
I think worth every single penny, It was so good we did want to move back home. Moreover you end us spending the same amount ( in fact more) if you choose a Pvt Room, then why not go for TLC
The Price Comparison for TLC and non TLC is here ( Will update the link shortly )

My wife is in first trimester now and doing a research on which hospital to select. The above review is very good and wanted to see Wockhardt personally once. Please suggest a good doctor at Wockhardt as we are planning for a normal check-up for first trimester there.
Srinivas
Hello Srinivas,
Since we have visited Mangala Ramchandra, we would suggest her, but most of them must be just fine. we choose her as she is available 5 days a week.
Wockhardt is now Fortis, so I suggest you re-look at the TLC Package as Iam not aware of the changes if they have made any.
