Vanitha on Udaya TV

This is actually true, Vanitha will be on Udaya TV for a brief moment talking about Wockhardt Hospital in a program called ‘Sanjivini’

Such a small world, This is the same ‘Sanjivini’ whose CD’s we saw several times before we gave our opinion on the Intellectual Properties Rights and also discussed with the owners of this format when it started.

Wockhardt Hospital where we took the TLC package and where our Geet was born, Dr. Mangala Ramchandra our Gynecologist and our Client, this day all three came together.

There was an interview of Dr. Mangala Ramchandra in Wockhardt Hospital and they called Vanitha to share few points and the serial owned and hosted by our initial clients :) Our Client was neither present there nor were they aware it was Vanitha on Camera.

She did not know what to speak, but they assured that there would be re-takes if the interview was not fine. Vanitha  just blabbered in Kanglish , (she was suppose to speak in Kannada but spoke with a combination of Kannada & English) and expected for a re-take but they said that was ok :P Vanitha was little confused, to add to that they also said that they will cut the stuff that is not required he he

So I hope atleast some part of the interview is played , it will be played on Sat 19th Sept , 8 AM in Udaya TV. I must somehow manage to record that so that every time Geet cries I have something with me to make her laugh – :) he he :)

NAM – Final Version

This is the Final Version of the NAM, this is now ready and to be fixed to Geet almost 24/7 ( almost )

It is not just NAM, you have to prepare to put the NAM,

  1. you need small, little, tiny elastics,
  2. 3M Steri – Strip to hold those elastics which in turn holds the NAM in place.
  3. Also need another 3M Steri – Strip to push the Pre-maxilla down.
  4. Comfeel tapes on which these 3M tapes are put ( otherwise it may hurt every time you peel the strip off )
  5. Polygrip to hold the NAM from inside

IMG00473       IMG00472

This is how she looks with the NAM on

IMG00500        IMG00463

I know this looks a lot hideous and difficult to put. Actually for the first week you find the NAM difficult to  put, then ( does it get easier) ? then you get used to it.

Geet is dam clever, a moment of lapse and she removes the NAM, she just peels the entire thing off, that in turn is more painful.

We used the Haberman Feeder also known as Medela Special Needs Feeder and she has got used to it, Now with NAM she does not feed in that bottle :( , so when NAM is on Feeding is Off.

Works to be Done

I may fly abroad for the Surgery, so the following are the stuffs to be done on Top Priority :-

  1. Passport for Geet
  2. Change of Address for Vanitha’s Passport
  3. Change of Address & Correction in Name in my Passport
  4. Check the VISA Formalities
  5. Get my Convocation Certificate for ECNR
  6. No unnecessary expenses, as I need bank balance  for Surgery and if required for VISA

Birth Certificate in Bangalore

In short – Getting 2 Idli Vada from Brahman’s Cafe is more difficult than getting the Birth Certificate.

I wanted to get the Passports ready for all three, so needed the Birth Certificate for Geet. Everyone I spoke gave me an impression that getting the Birth Certificate was a herculean task. Some also told me to pay whatever but get atleast 3-4 copies of it as I may need them in future.

Since Geet was born at Wockhardt, Bannergatta Road, we had to go to the Corporation Office at Begur. I know that place as few Km on that road is the Reg office of Begur and I have visited couple of times.

I didn’t know how long it will take and what documents are required, I thought I’ll just visit the office and take some info on procedures and cost.

The Begur Corporation is amidst a very heavy traffic and a narrow lane ( bad combination ) however the once inside the building there was lot of calm and hardly anyone visible, not something you associate in a Govt office.

There was a help desk, on enquiry they told me to visit the First Floor for the Certificate. Once I was in the right counter, the person asked me for the Slip.

A slip was given by Wockhardt ( every other hospital ), this contains the details of the Birth date, time, names of Parents and add.  The same details is also sent to the Corporation Office by the Hospital.

He saw the slip, checked his register and found the details submitted by the Hospital and they gave me a form to fill, I told him that I wanted the name of the Baby in the Birth Certificate. For which he gave me another form.

He told me to go through the Terms & Conditions before filing the form, when I said it’s fine, he again marked a particular point and told me to go through it again. It read that once you have added the name in the Birth Certificate, the same cannot be changed or corrected every again. hmm

He then offered me a seat next to the table and told me to make myself comfortable. Also switched on the fan for me and even offered me a tea from the local tea person :) . Since this Birth Certificate would go to the passport office I checked and rechecked with him on some crucial points. He never for once got angry infact explained me in detail how the simple form has to be filled.

In the form I filled No of copies as ‘4’, went to him with the form, I was told to pay Rs. 80. Rs. 50 for Birth Certificate and Rs. 30 for 3 extra copies.

I was still surprised, asked him once again, if I had to pay anything more, he said No but said if I wanted to give, it’s our wish. I offered him a very nominal amount. He took it with smile.

That’s it, nothing more, no running around, no bribes, no frustration and the entire process did not take more than 15 min. I was given a acknowledgement and told to come after 3 days to collect my copies.

Vanitha thinks I’m spoiling a clean Govt office by offering money, but I think it was more as a token of appreciation, Common 4 Birth Certificate, Very Vey crucial for us, treated us with all the politeness in the world, did not even expect any bribe, finished all the process in 15 min and offered the Certificates in 3 days, I was amazed and I felt I should do something more…

As I said – Getting 2 Idli Vada from Brahman’s Cafe is more difficult than getting the Birth Certificate.

GEET – It’s Final

We had come down to last three names:-

  • Geet
  • Gunjan
  • Gaargee

Then it was between Geet  & Gunjan, finally we decided on

Geet

I also think some one messed up the Poll :( , it was showing “Geet” leading with almost 50% but now all three names are equal by 34%, 34% and 33% :) anyway I made by choice :)

NAM – 2nd Step

The NAM was ready, it was made out of the mould of the palate that they took last time. This is not the Final NAM, it was only the framework, on which some other stuffs needed to be added.

This NAM was given to us by Dr. Akshai, he also showed us how to put the NAM. It looks very difficult. Vanitha avoided trying while I was relatively successful in putting the NAM. Every time we did NAM she would cry, and every time she cries me and Vanitha would go into panic mode.

Dr. gave us Polygrip (free) an adhesive for dentures, again made in US and not easily available in India. Along with Polygrip we have to use the 3M Steri-Strips for now, while the final version will require few more stuff.

IMG00435

This is the Basic Frame of NAM

IMG00440

This is how NAM (basic and not Final ) is placed, the baby again cried and Vanitha joined her. I was the only one behaving normal ( or abnormal )

Picture 068

We had to get used to fitting the NAM in two days. It was tough but I managed to do couple of times and removed it within few minutes -  could not see her with NAM :(

Picture 069

NAM – 1st Step

First thing they do is take the mould of the baby’s palate. This is done the same way your dentist does when he’s giving you that artificial teeth. They apply some sort of cream ( clay like ) and place it inside the baby’s mouth while applying pressure to the Palate. This way you get the shape and depth of the palate. With this mould they then create the NAM.

When Dr. Akshai Shetty did this for our baby is was lil painful to watch. Coz this was the first time we remained still doing nothing when she was crying. She was crying more out of discomfort than pain, but still Doctors are Doctors, they do this day in and day out and are used to it and we Parents have our own sentiments.

While the NAM is getting ready in couple of days time,  we were told to strap the Premaxilla with a Tape. 3M Steri Strip to be precise, this is how the Steri-Strip Looks like

IMG00436

So we were given few Steri Strips by the Doctor and told to visit him again after couple of days once the NAM is ready. He  showed us how to put the Steri Strip. Doctor also told that incase the Strip causes some allergy then we have to put the Comfeel Tape and then Steri Strips on that, So that Comfeel becomes a base the strips will not touch the baby’s skin and the peeling of strips will not  hurt her. Here is the picture of Comfeel

IMG00424

However we initially did not get Comfeel as it was required only if it caused allergy ( big mistake, should have bought it imd ) It was difficult initially to put the Steri-Strip on the Pre-maxilla, but we had to do it. The baby cried a bit, but later calmed down, however every now n then she tries to pull it off. Here is the Picture of the baby with the Strip On :

IMG00422

I know it is painful, but it is for her own benefit

Visit to The Smile Train

Let me keep it very Short – My visit to the Smile Train at Sri Bhagwan Mahaveer Hospital was not something that I would be happy to remember.

On the other hand Personally I think the every parent whose child has Cleft & Palate should visit that Hospital ( Provided they are strong )

Pros of Visiting

Lot of Parents ( even me at some point of time )  may seek answers for Q like Why us? Why only our Kid?. There you get your answer, it’s not only you, you are not Alone, as you will come across many many more parents with their kids n babies facing the same congenital deformity.

Cons of Visiting

Again there are whole lot of Parents who did not get proper medical attention or right Surgeries and have come here to seek the Help of the Experts to get it right. As a parent it can scare you.
