What is Immunization?
It is the process by which an individual’s immune system becomes fortified against an agent (known as the immunogen)
Why Immunization?
Immunization is a way of protecting your child against serious disease. Once children have been immunized their bodies can fight those diseases if they come into contact with them
Benefits of Immunization?
-
Protects them from dangerous and deadly diseases
-
Protects others who cannot be vaccinated for medical purpose
-
Decreases the Severity of the case if vaccinated child does get the disease
-
Decreases the spread of contagious diseases through “Herd Immunity”
What happens If we don’t Immunize?
If a child is not immunized they will be at risk from catching the disease and will rely on other people immunizing their children to avoid becoming infected.
What are the Recommended Vaccinations and Schedule?
Different Countries have different Schedule & Recommendation, I think your Pediatrician will be the best person to guide you on this, however these are some Schedules:-
India National Immunization Schedule as per WHO
Indian Academy of Pediatrics – PDF Download
Immunization Schedule UK – PDF Download
Immunization Schedule US – PDF Download
Please Consult your Pediatrician for the Schedule recommended for your child
But does my child need all the recommended Vaccinations?
Yes. Often a course of immunization takes more than one injection. Some of the later injections are boosters for the earlier ones. Booster ensure that immunity lasts for a long time. It is important to receive all the doses or protection against disease is less likely to be achieved.
What about the Side Effects?
Yes there may be some side effects, but some parents focus on the side effects of the immunizations more than on the diseases the child is protected from.
ookk, Should I not worry about the Side Effects?
It is important to understand that the risk of serious complications in connection with vaccination is very low, compared to the risk from the diseases should a child contract them.
How should I comfort my Baby during Vaccination?
