9th Month
9 Month – Should I start to worry?
Congratulations!
Congratulations??
Your pregnancy is now considered full term (37 weeks)— meaning your baby is developmentally ready to handle life outside the womb. (Babies born before 37 weeks are pre-term and those born after 42 weeks are post-term.)
Why do I feel my baby has moved a bit lower?
If your baby’s head has started to engage in preparation for the labour ahead, you may notice that your bump has ‘dropped’ as the head settles into the pelvis.
What about my breathing?
When this happens, your breathing will become easier as the pressure under your diaphragm and ribs is eased and eating a complete meal will again become a possibility.
Is it all well then? Is the pregnancy smooth from now?
The downside is that the baby’s head (or presenting part if not the head) is now pressing directly on your bladder making your urinary frequency much worse.
What about the Contractions Pains?
That might be your Braxton Hicks contractions – click here

So what changes will happen during this month?
With You :-
-
The ninth month is filled with general aches and pains.
-
Every step seems to be uncomfortable.
-
You may feel different kicks which are less intense but much harder and painful.
-
You feel big and you act accordingly
-
Everything is done at a slower pace and with greater difficulty.
-
Swelling of ankles and feet may increase.
-
Your cervix will open up (dilate) and thin out (efface) as it prepares for birth.
-
You may be uncomfortable because of the pressure and weight of the baby. Rest often.
-
Other symptoms you may experience are: Cramps, swelling of the ankles, feet and face. Varicose veins, hemorrhoids, bladder pain and leakage, heartburn, breast enlargement and leaking colostrum, and general discomfort
With the Baby :-
-
At 37 to 40 weeks, your baby is full term.
-
The baby’s lungs are mature and ready to function on their own.
-
The baby gains about 1/2 pound a week.
-
The baby usually drops into a head-down position and rests lower in your abdomen.
-
By the end of the ninth month, the baby is 19 to 21 inches long and weighs 6 to 9 pounds.
