Doc Consultation Week 18

Feb 27

Today we had our Consultation with our Gynecologist, 9:30 Am and as always we where there on time. This time thanks to the wallet parking started by Wockhardt.

Well this time we had spent lot of time with the Doc, it felt good, we had made a detailed list of questions to be asked, they were ( Note, these are not the exact n accurate conversation, but the more or less the meaning was the same ) :-

Vanitha : My nose bleeds, is it alright?

Doc : It is perfectly normal, nothing to worry, such things do happen during Pregnancy

Vanitha : I have been having vomiting frequently, even had one before coming here

Doc : Usually by the end of first 4 months, the vomiting should come down, but sometime it extends beyond that time

Me : Complaining – Apart from Pomegranate she does not have any other fruit

Doc : let her have only that, it is a good source of Iron ( Vanitha giggling )

Vanitha : The Calcium tables are so huge, it sort of gets suck in my throat

Doc : break it and have one half in the morning and one ha;f in the eve, how many glasses of milk do you have in a day?

Vanitha : Three glasses of Milk

Doc : then it is fine, you can switch to 250 mg instead of 500mg, but I suggest you continue your intake

Vanitha : I think I have lot of gastric problem?

Doc : have shorter & more frequent meals and have gelusil

Me : again complaining – She has only three meals, and no fruits and vegetables intake – this time she is caught

Doc : this is not the way, you should not have three meals a day, infact have shorter and frequent meals through out the day so that even your gastric is at check

Vanitha : trying to give explanation – I dont feel like having

Doc : you do not have a choice, there is no “feeling like not having” – “you should have”

Vanitha : again trying – but I don’t feel like having food

Doc : there is no excuse, you should have proper intake of diet which should include fruits and vegetables.

Vanitha : I’m applying Stretch Nil, will this remove the stretch marks?

Doc : It depends on Individual skin types, for some it may not appear at all, for some it may be very prominent and no cream can clear this marks, they can only reduce

We had few more discussion and the Doc did her routine check also with some Hifi device where in we could hear the heart beats of the baby loudly. She then directed Vanitha to have a Tetanus Injection and one more next month.

She then suggested the Triple Marker Test, this is done to rule out the absolute chances of Down Syndrome ( I was lil disappointed – reason in next post ). She also suggested an Anomaly Scan in about 20 weeks ( that is two weeks from today ). Our Consultation & the tetanus injection was included in the TLC Package so we did not pay anything :)

Pratap Dead – Suguna Widow but Vanitha all Stressed

24 Feb – Late Posting

Vanitha was sad and depressed, why did they kill Pratap?, what will they gain by doing so?  why do they do this?, she never asked so many question the first day we met before our Engagement.

She watches very few television serials and thank god none of those ekta ones. Her buffet of serials would include Mein Kab Saas Banugi, Jugni Chali Jalander, Sarabai Vs Srb, mostly comedy and few others including Ballika Vadhu.

The eventful serial of Ballika Vadhu where in Pratap the Husband of Suguna is coming with his baraat to take Suguna home and during this the ends of being killed in the hands of the Dacoits. He is being carried to the nearest hospital which is Suguna;s village,  breathing his last on his way. Many like Vanitha were praying that he would survive – how can praying stop the consequences of the serial which has been shot I guess weeks ago? she doesn’t care. Both her palms resting on her cheeks she watches in horror and at times turning her back, avoiding the Television and hiding her face on my shoulder and me all the time explaining that he will die, you cannot change the outcome of the serial.

Even during the commercial break she asks me to send a mail to the Director to change the outcome, she brings out new ways wherein miracle can happen and save Pratap, though she is very well aware nothing of that sort will happen. She feels a parallel Vanitha is there in that wedding function and is so sad for Suguna.

I have never seen her so engrossed in any serial, I have seen her react to anything like that.  I was trying to put things in a lighter mood, I gave her a live performance,  singing & dancing with my ugly dance and badly replaced lyrics, she ended up laughing so much that her stomach started to hurt,  I did not want her to be all stressed up for some stupid serial…

However the Lamaze Classes were as per schedule. The Lamaze Classes for Vanitha will start after completing 20 weeks. hmm three more weeks before she starts attending.

My update on the Stem Cell Banking is still due, will do that once I manage to find some time to reconcile the details collected.

Back Ache and Nausea

Feb 23

Its been nearly 3 weeks since we had gone out together, Sunday is the only day where I’m free for the entire day and this time I informed Vanitha that we should go out  – preferably in the morning as usually she feels sick in the eve.

I wanted her to come out, do some walking, catch some breath, meet few people,  more than 3 weeks at home will make anyone sick. The morning gradually was postponed to Noon as she had Back Ache and was not feeling very good about it and again from Noon went to eve.

I was not very sure if this was the right time to go, we had planned to visit my friend and also buy some provisions while coming back. On our way we learnt that my friend and their parents are not at home ( I had told Vanitha to call and confirm ) and then her nausea started,  I went to provision store and in-between I recd a call from Vanitha that she was vomiting.

It was bad, everything she had had come out and was feeling extremely sick. She felt week and helpless.

I Felt very sorry for her and was feeling guilty as well, It was me who forced her to come out and meet some friends & family. I wanted her to meet people, coz in last 3 weeks she had not seen any new faces and everyone so busy in their work did not expect many to visit her at our home also.

She was feeling miserable all night and did not have dinner also, she just had a glass of milk and went to bed. I was feeling a lil ashamed, I could have avoided all this If I choose not to go out…

Back Ache During Pregnancy – II Trimester Pregnancy Symptoms

Feb 22

This is an extract from various Pregnancy Websites, the Credit for this work should be rightfully given to them, these websites are mentioned at the bottom of the post.

Note: All information on this blog is for educational purposes only. For specific medical advice, diagnoses, and treatment, consult your doctor

Is it Common to have Back Ache during Second Trimester?

Backache is very common in pregnancy. About half of all pregnant women complain of backaches. Fortunately, there are lots of simple strategies you can use to ease the pain

Why Back Ache in 2nd Trimester ?

In the second trimester, your uterus becomes heavier, changing your center of gravity. Gradually — and perhaps without even noticing it — you will begin to adjust your posture and the ways in which you move.

Why do we get such back aches?

During pregnancy, the joints between your pelvic bones begin to soften and loosen in preparation for the baby to pass through your pelvis during birth.

Is there any other reasons?

Another contributor to back pain may be separation (diastasis) of the muscles along the front of the abdomen (the rectus abdominis muscles). These two parallel sheets of muscles run from the rib cage to the pubic bone. As the uterus expands, these muscles sometimes separate along the center seam, and back pain can then become worse.

As the baby grows, the hollow in your back may increase and this may cause you backache.

Also, due to the increased weight, the muscles in your back may have to work harder to support your balance, resulting in increased lower back pain

How do you prevent or ease back pain ?

Exercise. Sticking to an exercise program can solve a lot of your worries. Find out from your doctor what abdominal and back strengthening exercises are safe for you. Also, find out how long you can maintain your regular exercise program.
Swimming, for example, may be an excellent way to keep fit and relieve the stress on your back from the extra pregnancy weight. Water exercises also invariably work out the trunk muscles, as you use them to balance yourself while floating weightlessly.

Proper Picking up Posture, Girls! You’re walking down the hall when you spot your husband’s toolbox laying on the floor. Stop! Remember, when picking something up from the floor, bend your knees and keep your back straight. Always lift with your legs, never your back, keeping the heavy object close to your body at all times.
You can also try kneeling down on one knee with the other foot flat on the floor. Get as close to the renegade object as you can.

Don’t Be A Sitting Duck. Improper sitting positions will make you an easy target for back pain. Be sure to sit with your back straight and well supported. When you are seated, tuck a small, firm cushion in the small of your back. It will give you support and help relieve the aches you experience after you have been sitting for a while. Make sure that your chair has a straight back, arms and firm cushions.
When sitting, try not to cross your legs. This can aggravate your back pain and compromise the circulation in your extremities.

Showing Style. High-heeled shoes are so before-you-were-pregnant. Word to the fashionista: because of the extra weight you’re carrying, you’ll want to pack away uncomfortable footwear. Think flat, simple and comfortable.

Sleeping Arrangements A firm mattress will help relieve your back pain. If you don’t have a firm mattress, put a piece of hardboard under your current mattress.
Lying on your back puts 55 lbs. of pressure on your back. Placing a pillow under your knees cuts the pressure in half. Lying on your side with a pillow between your knees also reduces the pressure.

A Pillow is the Answer. Try a pregnancy pillow (see photos below). These popular full-body pillows provide great support for your head, shoulders, abdomen and legs. They promote healthier circulation and can reduce head, neck and back pain. These special pillows soothe aching muscles and also ensure proper spinal alignment. After the arrival of your baby, lie back and use it as a nursing pillow.

Wear a Support Belt. A pregnancy support belt gently lifts the abdomen without squeezing and encourages a more erect posture. Proven to be safe, these popular belts can dramatically reduce or even eliminate lower back pain caused by the strains of pregnancy. These belts are comfortable and fully adjustable.

Pamper Yourself. While a birthday lets you be “Queen of the Day,” pregnancy means people will tolerate you lavishing yourself with tender loving care for a whole nine months. Pampering yourself, even if it’s just getting more rest, can mean reduced back pain.
Ask your partner or a friend to massage your back — remember though that some aromatherapy oils can be dangerous for the baby. Instead, use baby oil to rub your aches away. Also, make sure you get enough rest, especially later on in your pregnancy. Lastly, try not to stand for long periods of time. If you have to, keep one foot up on a stool with your knee bent to prevent strain on your lower back.

About Weight Gain. Don’t gain more than the recommended amount of weight. Nine months of carrying extra weight gain will take its toll on your back. If you’re already a bit over the suggested gain, be sure to make up for it with added rest.

If none of these measures bring relief, your doctor may recommend special back strengthening exercises or classes for pregnant women.

Bad-day for Vanitha

Feb 17

This was a pretty bad day for her, she did not feel good all day, was feeling drowsy and had a head ache from the time she woke up in the morning.

And it turns out that this is again normal in Pregnancy – This is an extract for Head Aches during 16 weeks from www.parenting.com :-

“If you feel like you’ve got a permanent head cold, it’s because more blood than usual is flowing to your mucous membranes, causing them to swell.” – “Suffering from a headache? Skip the aspirin and ibuprofen, which aren’t safe for pregnant women since they could hurt your baby’s development.”

She also vomited all she had eaten that day late in the evening, It brought back memories of her pathetic situation she faced during her first trimester,  vomiting all day – well it was only once, but the intensity was the same.

She becomes so weak after such vomits and with that added headache, man she was feeling miserable and the worst part of it all is that you cannot do anything to help her feel better. You can only stand with a bottle of water and a napkin next to her when she is vomiting and try consoling her that this is the last of such vomits she will come across.

Financial Planning for the Kid

Feb 16

I got an amazing book which spoke about financial planning for a kid, this purchase was by chance – was exchanging the smelling sugar cane cubes from reliance and had to buy something in exchange

Wow they do have Complex Financial Planning but it seems to make lot of sense. They have a step by step plan from the day your kid is born till he/she enrolls for higher education – I liked it.

Will post that shortly in a day or two, right now I’m busy trying to study for my Post Graduate Exams – the one which is pending for few years now :p

3rd Ante-Natal Classes – Follow up

Dec 15

This was our 3rd Ante-Natal Class and first one for me. The Auditorium was pretty neat with nice Comfortable chairs and a lil extra Ac for Comfort ( man it was chill out there). The ever smiling Aparna was outside the Auditorium greeting each one of us and I think to also make sure that only the TLC Package holders are allowed inside :p

This session of Ante-Natal Class was from Reliance – Relicord, it was pretty good but still there were lot of doubts ( lot lot and lot ) when it came to Cord Blood Stem Cell Banking, especially when you add Cord Banking along with Cord Blood..
So decided to get more info with the concern person, did contact him and told him that will send him a mail. Meanwhile I will also try to bring out the Comparison among the major players in this field like Lifecell, Relicord and few others.

Until then will update on you the next Ante-Natal Class, waiting for the mail from Aparna from Wockhardt.
