Cradle – Maternity Hospital Bangalore

Dec 1

Extract from the Post - Maternity Hospitals in Bangalore )

Cradle

Cradle I guess started the trend of Birthing Suites, The entire Hospital is only about Maternity, wow what can be better than that an entire Hospital dedicated about the Maternity, it had amazing suites, Best of Doctors, and a dedicated team of professionals. I had the details of the prime two packages, The Suites and the Private Room. The Private Room costed 45K but Doc Charges, Medication and taxes extra, roughly Private Room Normal Delievery would cost around 53K and C- Section around 65K and this gigure crosses a lakh ( WOW Rs. 1,00,000 + ) if you opt for the Suite and again this does not include all the Consultations + Test + Scans + other Misc, Cradle sort was the best suited but i guess would have worked out similar to Apollo and Wockhardt when it comes to Private Room and the off course it was more like a luxury Hospital. I read many reviews especially about Dr. Padmini Isaac and Dr. Kini  in cradle and 9 out of 10 were happy with Cradle. So if you stay close to Jayanagar and have deep pockets Cradle is for you :)

This is the Comment & a small review from Mini ( Thank You Mini )

Hi,

I feel Wockhardt has the best package that any maternity hospital can provide. One of my freinds has recently delivered there and was very happy with the whole process and support during delivery.
i had not checked Wockhardt (now I regret) and went to Cradle instead. Man, they charge so so much for everything – apart from the package cost that you pay at the time of delivery (52,000 at least for normal delivery), there ar so many expenses prior to that – doc fees, scans (min 1200, upto 1800), costly blood tests etc.
Moreover at delivery time, Cradle doe NOT provide any items that are required for a mother during and post delivery – no gowns, sanitary pads (you need special ones), baby diapers (they give just 1 pack of 10) etc. Wockhardt gives you everything is what my freind told. It is not that these things are costly, but it is a hassle to arrange for all these when you are in that situation. for example, you would need minimum 2 gowns per day while at the hospital. At cradle, you need to bring all with you – if you do not have so many, you need support at home to send them back and keep getting them washed and back. This is a very simple facility any hospital (not just maternity) provides.
So, do not worry about the extra blood tests that they charge you outside the TLC package, it is still the best youc an get in Bangalore with a world class facility.

  2. Hi,

I was just googling around for some stuff on post pregnancy and i stumbled on to your blog. Well done. Congratulations, first of all on your journey, i think you have done fab research and my god !! you have the time and patience to do this. Lets c u do this when you become a father, Pavan ;)
Anyways, we (me and my hubby) did do a bit of window shopping, if i can say that, when it comes to delivery. I stay in bilekahalli, just off Banerghatta Road. Eventually, I did deliver my beautiful daughter in Cradle just about 3.5 weeks now and it was an awesome fulfilling experience. Just wanted to say that some of the information published here is a bit wrong. Their “delivery package” of Rs. 45,000 for Normal Delivery is inclusive of all the doc’s charges, not additional, we inquired about that repeatedly and finally did have to pay a bit xtra, which was bout 1000 bucks for some additional medications, thats it. It was much more than anyone can expect especially in comparison to these big name hospitals. i have friends who have delivered in the TLC package, at Wockhardt…be ready to be surprised !! and in such hospitals – lets c u get things done. My suggestion would still be that you give Cradle another round of thought, where you will be treated like kings and queens that we are, there will be sour grapes everywhere, but you will definitely not miss out on the joy of delivering…… thats’ for sure. Mail me for details if you need any, happy to help, may not be able to respond immediately though.

    Congratulations again.

    • Hey Shraddha,

Thanks for your insight. I strongly believe opinions cannot be made by one visit and I also believe you should experience the two to compare. I have experienced none and you have experienced Cradle:). I;m still not sure that about the cost of Cradle, when did you deliver?, coz I still have the brochures and rates with me which I had collected. and Iam sure that the rates you mention are not for the LDR Rooms, coz even private rooms there cost Rs. 55K +. And the rates are for only the three days / 5 days of the delivery and not those consultation before delievery, TLC includes is for all Consultations, Scans, Tests, Delivery and Post Delivery, Lamaze & Ante Natal Classes from Second Trimester till delivery and Post delivery( a liltle ) and the LDR Room

Cradle was my fav, I had decided to have a baby there even before I got married :) However the choice I made for Wockhardt was for the following reasons:-

      1. Its Nearest among all the Hospitals, since I travel often, Vanitha can even walk her way to the Hospital and during unforeseen circumstances the nearer the better.
      2. The cost of 67 K is for the best possible Birthing Suite available.
      3. It has dedicated section and floor for Maternity.
      4. The lamaze Classes – Ante-Natal Classes and other info are bundled in the same package- It’s a one stop solution for all your Pregnancy Gyan.
      5. I don’t have to remove cash or card every time for consultation or test ( reason this is important is coz sometimes I have cash in thousands and sometimes I’m absolutely broke, I don’t want a situation that tom there has to be a test done and I don’t have any cash at that time ).

IT would be great if you could in your spare time, share your experience with Cradle and also the stuffs you heard about TLC, It is always nice to have the user experience.

    • Hi, i am 2 months pregnant. i stay at ramurthy nagar but have chossen to go to Cradle for my monthly check-up as well as my delivery. I am kind of hesitant to go to male gynic. i was planning to ask for Leela bhagvan. Do you know anything about her. please mail me if possible, as i am not regular blogger
      thanks:)

  3. Hi

I think your blog has all the misleading information. I delivered in Cradle – Normal delivery and it costed me only Rs. 47,000 in total and it included Doc’s Charges. My friend opted for Wockhardt – and landed up having an emergency section for a baby that they KILLED!!! Now my friend is suing them – they convinced her to have a normal delivery after a c-section and landed up having a rupture of uterus – and losing a 3.7 Kgs baby – and paid 2.8 lakhs!! Cradle has had ZERO percent mortality so far!! So get your comparisons right and do your research better. Also my package was 47,000 because we did newborn screening test for Rs. 2000. The same my friend paid in Wockhardt Rs.3,800!!!

    With regards

    • Hey Beautiful Mom,

I repeat what I said in my earlier reply, opinions cannot be made by one visit and without experiencing the both, you have experienced Cradle and you may be right on your views. My views are on what information I gathered and not on my experience. I also said “…Cradle sort was the best suited but i guess…”

I never said Wockhardt was better than Cradle :) and with regard to the cost I quote “… if you opt for the Suite and again this does not include all the Consultations + Test + Scans + other Misc…” here I refer to those before the Delivery (obviously), coz in wockhardt all these are included in the package :) .

And I have also clearly stated “Please Note all views are personal and I neither suggest or condemn these hospitals, please refer to your own research while choosing the same” infact I have only compared the cost and facilities and in both cases I did put cradle on top so I dont understand this comment which says that ” Your Blog has all the misleading information”

And with regard to your friend, my condolences to them and hope this does not happen in future to any one in any hospital. The reasons for me choosing Wockahrdt is posted and so far no problems :)

  4. Wow Pavan,

Some strong comments. I delivered about 4 weeks back now in Cradle. You were right, there were some taxes additional, which were not much though. Nihal felt i dint need to know that, now u know !! Anyways, Our idea of window shopping for delivery was not just the costs involved, but many other factors. I had been going to Cradle since my 4th month, i can definitely share the costs with you from there on. Also, about the experience in Wockhardt, i do not want to cause a furor in your blog, i think personal opinions get read into too much, mail me directly and i shall give you all the details. Hope that works….

    • Hey Shraddha,

Indeed Some Strong Comments :) and I appreciate what you said about personal opinions causing furor and reading too much into it. I was surprised with the sudden outpour of comments in the famine hit blog :) , infact this entry was among the first I typed way back in Dec.

We had come down to final 2 ( Cradle & Wockhardt ) and the decisive decision was because of the distance, Wockhardt is about 500 mts from my home, she you can walk to the hospital in my absence or a very short ride the same could not be done in case of Cradle. and my frequent plans and living separate( just me & Vanitha ) it was an important factor for me.

If you look at the latest entries in my blog you would have noticed that we are so much occupied with a much bigger challenge in our hands. everything has changed, our perspective, our plans, our priorities, our budget, lil bit of dreams, everything. We are not only thinking about after delivery- on a look out for an expert Plastic Surgeon, do let me know if you know any experts, and ‘the’ experience in Wockahrdt I will send you a mail on this you can reply to that.

      Pavan & Vanitha

    • Hi, I would want to know how much did it cost you in cradle. My wife had a mis carriage last month and I took her to Philomena’s hospital where my experience wasn’t very good. On 23rd this month my wife hand severe abdomen pain and i took her to cradle. They suggested my wife to do a D&C. we got he admitted and with in 4 hrs it was done and my wife got discharged also. But what shocked me was the bill, it was Rs 23,000. The doctor’s charge alone was Rs 13,000. Now I’m looking for an alternative hospital for the future.

      • Hello Peter,

We did not go for Cradle and chose Wockhardt instead, the expenses till date can be found in this link below :-
        http://ekkhwab.com/2009/06/07/pregnancy-expenditure/

I dunno what D&C means, it will be nice if you could let me know about it.

        Pavan

  5. D & C is clinical procedure where they clean the uterus if there are any products still left after a miscarriage or abortion.

Though the service was great in cradle, i guess i can’t afford for it at the moment.

    • Hello Peter,

Sorry about the D & C, hope you guys are doing fine. Vanitha was perplexed when she came to know about the 23k figure, obviously it is much much cheaper in her hometown of Chikamagalur, but to be honest we dunno how much Wockhardt charges so – cant even compare the both, however will find out this weekend and let you know

      Pavan

  6. Thanks Pavan. guess Wockhardt is far for us. We stay in cox town. My boss was suggesting Ramaiah hospital for our future plans. Still not sure which hospital to choose.

    • Cox Town – I guess you can also look into Manipal – even Columbia Asia Hospital – :) let us know when you choose one. we will add to the list

  7. I think Cradle is pretty ordinary overall. We just had a son, our second child, and feel that the experience was basic, while the cost was not (our first child was born at Sitaram Bhartia in Delhi, which was fantastic).

The pros: good staff, in nursing. The anesthetist (Dr.Mohan) was good, very professional. The staff in the OT were good, and Dr.Jyothi Menon, efficient.

The cons: the same doctor, Dr.Jyothi Menon, is however, an old world dinosaur, who does not like it if you read up or do your own research. She believes in telling you that she knows everything, however, on some basic points her knowledge was strangely suspect.

When it comes to infrastructure, the place sucks! The pharmacy is not open 24 hrs, which is strange. The food is horrible! Tasteless, poor preparation, low in quantity and quality.

The NST machine was not working once. The ear test machine did not work throughout our stay.

The rooms are also very weird. Some luxury rooms are large and nice, some are like tiny grottoes you wouldn’t want to look at – BUT AT THE SAME PRICE. This is exploiting the goodwill of the patient, over the first-come-first-serve model.

The billing is non-transparent. The luxury package could be ‘X’, but the doctor will charge 10-15k more as her fees, in spite of the package claiming that the same is included! Then there is the billing for even spending 15 minutes somewhere, although it could be that the staff first too you there, before shifting you. Very shady and non-transparent.

Overall, the cons outweigh the pros. I would not recommend this place to anyone, in spite of the publicity. I think they are pretty basic in their offering, extremely commercial, and the cost-benefit just doesn’t hold.

  8. Thanks for your comment,

It would interesting to know how many rooms they have ( luxury kind ), since it is a biggest hospital compared to the Maternity Section of any other hospital.

coz having just few luxury ones and then with a First Come First Save Basis is just not right and how can they charge you for the luxury room when they are not providing you one..?

Anyways – Congratulations for your successful and safe delivery

  13. Hi people,

Really need some help. My husband and i are trying to have a baby (am not sure if i already am preggers coz am experiencing some symptoms! yippeee)…we need help deciding on a doc and a hospital.

We are from Chennai and we don’t know any reputed docs in Bangalore. A friend of mine delivered both her babies at the Cradle (Dr.Padmini Isaac is a relative of hers) and told me that it isn’t perfect, but it is definitely good. I too have been to the Cradle for some thyroid tests and was quite impressed with the surroundings. Having read all the posts about Wockhardt, i am definitely interested, but the cost seems too prohibitive. (my hubby probably has insurance upto 50k)

My husband wants to find a hospital nearby (we live in Brookfields), but there are none to my liking. Is it advisable to go to a hospital in jayanagar or bannarghetta road? Has anyone personally done that and not had any issues with travel time when in labor et al? What happens if there is an emergency? (tht’s my hubby’s argument!)

Are the doctors at the Cradle or The Nest really good? Almost every doc in bangalore has a good and truly horrible review in cyberspace…how on earth do we decide?? I need a doc who is neither too old or too inexperienced…someone who will address my fears and apprehensions without talking down to me or brushing it off as being trivial. That is really really important to me…so please let me know from your personal experience if there are good and reliable docs at these two hospitals. Dr.Kini has rave reviews, but i don’t feel comfortable having a male ob/gyn!

Apart from these two hospitals, what are my options?

I really look forward to as much help as possible! Thanks a lot for your time.

    Cheers,
    Carol
