Maternity Hospitals in Bangalore

1 Dec,

We decided to have a look at the various hospitals nearby and some famous ones and their facilities for Vanitha’s Pregnancy and also visit any Gynecologist in those hospital to re-confirm Vanitha’s Pregnancy. We stay in Bannergatta Road and the first Hospital in our list was the “Wockhardt” – Please Note all views are personal and I neither suggest or condemn these hospitals, please refer to your own research while choosing the same

Wockhardt - Workhardt had a reputation that we could bank on, The Hospital looked very clean and tidy, the entrance lobby was greeted by a Huge Reception but hardly any one standing there, we enquired about the Maternity Packages, they requested to visit the waiting lounge, the scene looked more like a Bank, there were counters marked 1 to 7 all occupied by people in uniform. We again enquired about the Maternity packages, there we were directed to go to the Second Floor and meet Ms. Aparna, We found her on the Second Floor, she was very polite and brought to our notice that Wockhardt had launched “The Nest- Where Mothers are Born” – Birthing Suites, She showed us around the Hospital and also the LDR Room, and explained the various types of rooms and its cost and the TLC Package. TLC Package ( Tender Loving Care ) was interesting, it costed Rs. 67K for a normal delivery and 72K for C-section and this included

  • All Consultation with Gynaecologist from 2nd Trimester till delivery
  • Pediatric Consultation Post Delivery ( 3 Visits )
  • All Lab Test till Delievery
  • All Ultra Sound Investigation till Delivery
  • Tetanus Injection ( 2 – 3 Times ) as per the Doc
  • Lamaze Classes
  • Ante Natal Classes
  • Phtsiotherapist Counselling
  • New Born Screening Test
  • Requirements for Baby Diaper + Clots + Other Misc
  • Operation Theatre Charges
  • Medical Team
  • Consumables + Medicines used
  • Antibiotics for C Section
  • Diet Counselling
  • NST Charges
  • Welcome Kit which again includes … I;m Tired, u you call Aparna for more info.

Things seemed fine but 67K is quite some amount and it does not include 3D or 4D scan, all my relatives were against this Hospital it had a Reputation as one of the Top Hospital and Top Hospitals means more cost and more of unnecessary test, while aparna insisted that TLC will take care of all costs

Then Apollo

We were slightly disappointed when we visited Appollo, there was a counter in the reception launge, when enquired about maternity package he showed me a file which said that Multibed – Normal Delivery 18400, C-section 37400, Twin Bed – Normal 22600, C-section 45600, Pvt Bed 26800 & 54800 and Suite 78200 & 103200. It had no other details, no brochures, whats included and whats not, and nor could the person tell anything more on it. On Insisting he sent an attendant to show us the rooms and facilities, here are my pros and cons:-

  • It did not have a dedicated Maternity Centre or Suites
  • The Cost mention is only for those 3 days of Normal Delivery or 5 days for C Section
  • Consultations+Scans + Pharmacy+Test+ and everything else to paid extra
  • We had one bad experience in Appolo once Vanitha muscle pull, Doc told as possible kidney stone and went through a Ultra Sound Scan when nothing was found, they told us to do a CT Scan and some test and then doc says it was muscle pull, while she was all the time saying the same to the doc

On a whole we were not comfortable with the facility or the Hospitality from the Hospital, there were no nurse to guide us, there was no separate Maternity section and the cost also seemed more and added to that the Bad experience.

Cradle

Cradle I guess started the trend of Birthing Suites, The entire Hospital is only about Maternity, wow what can be better than that an entire Hospital dedicated about the Maternity, it had amazing suites, Best of Doctors, and a dedicated team of professionals. I had the details of the prime two packages, The Suites and the Private Room. The Private Room costed 45K but Doc Charges, Medication and taxes extra, roughly Private Room Normal Delievery would cost around 53K and C- Section around 65K and again this does not include all the Consultations + Test + Scans + other Misc Cradle sort was the best suited but i guess would have worked out similar to appolo and workhardt when it comes to private room and the off course it was more like a luxury hospital. I read many reviews on cradle and 8 oit of 10 were happy with Cradle.

Ramakrishna Nursing Home – Another Good and well known Hospital in Jayanagar, the cost was much less than all three but i was not exactly looking at this, so have not mentioned about it, the cost of private room afor delievery would around 55K + Medications + Misc

Decision

After looking into all the aspect i chose to go with Wockhardt for the following Reasons:-

  1. Its Nearest among all the Hospitals, since i travel often,  Vanitha can even walk her way to the Hospital,
  2. The cost of 67 K is for the best possible Birthing Suite available
  3. It has dedicated section and floor for Maternity
  4. I dont have to remove cash or card every time for consultation or test ( reason this is important is coz sometimes i have cash in thousands and sometimes I’m absolutely broke, i dont want a situation that tom there has to be a test done and i dont have any cash at that time)

Though we feel 67 is at a higher side and Vanitha hates these Big Hospitals Doc that often come late and spend little time with patients ( coz they are already late and they have patients piling up ) and instead we are looking a Doc who could explain in details about the dos and donts for every week, Right now its Wockhart but we still have couple of months to make the FInal Decision

This is the Comment & a small review from Mini ( Thank You Mini )

Hi,

I feel Wockhardt has the best package that any maternity hospital can provide. One of my freinds has recently delivered there and was very happy with the whole process and support during delivery.
i had not checked Wockhardt (now I regret) and went to Cradle instead. Man, they charge so so much for everything – apart from the package cost that you pay at the time of delivery (52,000 at least for normal delivery), there ar so many expenses prior to that – doc fees, scans (min 1200, upto 1800), costly blood tests etc.
Moreover at delivery time, Cradle doe NOT provide any items that are required for a mother during and post delivery – no gowns, sanitary pads (you need special ones), baby diapers (they give just 1 pack of 10) etc. Wockhardt gives you everything is what my freind told. It is not that these things are costly, but it is a hassle to arrange for all these when you are in that situation. for example, you would need minimum 2 gowns per day while at the hospital. At cradle, you need to bring all with you – if you do not have so many, you need support at home to send them back and keep getting them washed and back. This is a very simple facility any hospital (not just maternity) provides.
So, do not worry about the extra blood tests that they charge you outside the TLC package, it is still the best youc an get in Bangalore with a world class facility.

  4. Hi
thanx a lot for good analysis.
i’m also sailing in the same ship

  5. Hi,

    Excellent analysis.

iam also going to waqardt hospital.

i dont know how much they will charge me for entire deliver.

they offered me that TLC package.

i seriosuly denied to go for it.

s, every one should be aware of this corporate cultures.

thanks a lot for the guidelines.

    regards
    sai

  6. @ Pampana you are right, Maternity has become a big business to all these hospitals and since it is a very delicate matter where some one would not take the risk, they are making good money out of these packages.

Let me know which one you are opting for, will of great help to us and Congratulations to you

  7. Hi,

I and my husband are shopping for a Good Gynac and good Maternity Hospital till now we have not come accross any good one. We read the Reviwes of Cradle in the net and it had mixed reviwes from Good to worse. Am really confused. And to top it all the amount of money the hospital charge for a natural process like a delivery is so off putting. Looks like pure business and nothing else.

    • Hi Snigda,

I replied to your comment, but dunno where it vanished, however this goes again. Cradle is good but expensive, I think you should look at the distance from your place also.

However I suggested that you visit Dr. Padmini Isaac, she is among the best Gync in Bangalore and she visits in Cradle ( Rs. 550-600 per consultation where others Gync are charged only 350 ), Ramakrishna Nursing Home ( again Rs. 500 while others Gynec charge only 250 ) or St. Martha;s Hospital.

Do let me know which one you choose, I’m still thinking about Wockhardt, since it is the closest from my place, 67k includes all from 12th week till delivery and for a LDR Suite.

  8. If you want to hear a reader’s feedback :) , I rate this post for four from five. Decent info, but I just have to go to that damn msn to find the missed pieces. Thanks, anyway!

  9. Hello,
Its nice to read the detailed comparison about all the good hospitals. I am in 5th month and we are still looking for really good hospital which can take of all the needs and don’t leave the patient perplexed.
Although, wockhardt will be quite far from my place where i live which is brookfield. so i don;t know how wise it would be to go that far for delievery. But when one looks for the best services, some compromise has to be made.
Could you pls let me know which gynae doctor you consulted and was she considerate, ready to listen to your worries or did she give enough time to you.

Pls pls I need a advice. Appreciate you time.

    Nidhi
