Missing the Pregnant Lady

Dec 26

Its been almost a week since Vanitha left, earlier I felt the chaotic and stressful life of taking care of Vanitha and two offices was hectic ( Read here - Life as a Father ) now I really miss that Pregnant Lady.

Seriously – I miss her sweet tantrums, I miss reminding her to have her Multi vitamins, I miss reminder her to take proper food, I miss her calls when she says she is not feeling well  and the worst part I feel incomplete, I Feel alone.

Now there is no one to wake me up in the morning, no one to force me to brush my teeth, no one to scold me and the part which i miss the most is when I Come back home there is no one to hug me, no one to ask me how was the day, no one to sit beside me to have dinner and no one to fight over food.

Yes I do can call friends, hang out with them, call my bro and sis, but at the end of the day they have their lives too, you cant expect them to spend time with me always,

I do have one clip of her in my mobile, It is one of those clips where she had a running nose and had a tissue pinned to her T-shirt, the same way we do for small kids so that they can wipe their nose and still not loose the tissue :) I was teasing her and she went on saying ” Mummy ne bolu” meaning I will complain to Mom, he he This clip actually shows how lively she is….This Clip Shows What Iam Missing Now….  - Sorry Guys had to remove the Video – Vanitha has been eating my head over this :)

Vanitha Back to her Hometown

Dec 21

Since Doc told that yest “By staying there if she could have proper food, avoid excess work, avoid nausea and be with some family members then it’s a good idea”, we decided to board the first train in the morning. The train was at 6AM and we were suppose to leave our home by 5:15 to reach there on time.

Woke up at 4:30 AM, Had nice Hot Bath and came down to the car and all I could see ( or not see ) was Fog, everywhere, visibility was very poor and I realised that at this rate and driving slow we may not make it.

We left the home as planned at 5:15, reached railway station and parked the car there for a day ( I had planned to return back next morning ) and parking for a Day costed Rs. 240/-, anyways left with no option we parked and hurried slowly – was like running in slow motion as they do in Bollywood movies – towards the train, we boarded the train 5 min before it left the station.

She had carried Bread butter, some biscuits, she had that first and later had couple of idlis at Tumkur Station and after a 3Hr journey we reached Berur and she had some idlis there too.

From there we left by road to her hometown, once reached everyone welcomed us with smile and Vanitha had brought lot of happiness to them. Everybody forced me to stay for a day or two, I left the same night via an AC Bus ( Sunday night transports leaving from Chickmangalore is always full )

On way back I was feeling lonely since I will be living all alone for quite some time now, but still I felt happy  coz now I knew she would be in safe hands and all her needs during the First Trimester would will be well taken care.

Early Pregnancy Scan – Positive

 of Dec 20 Eve

I was occupied in office and did not realise how the TIME almost managed to escape,  just then Vanitha’s phone rang like siren in a prison. I realised in shock and excused myself and started packing to leave the office, I had to be at the Hospital by 4PM. I called Vanitha and told her to go ahead with the scan without me as I may be slightly late and to my horror just realised that I had taken her Debit Card and also the cash that was lying in house.

She had only Rs. 600 with her while the Early Pregnancy Costed Rs. 840/-. She said she will request to start the scan and the money will be paid my me once I reach and to add to all this, I had borrowed Vanitha;s mobile ( My Blackberry died, yes died a day ago ) and had no way to communicate with her. I reached the Hospital and went around looking for her in Radiology Department and the Billing Centre but no trace of her. Just then received a call from Vanitha calling from a local PCO, I told her that Iam waiting in the billing section and then paid for her scan.

We were told to wait for our turn, while waiting Vanitha made sure she had sufficient water to keep her bladder full and I was filling her form. This form is to be compulsory filled by the lady undergoing the Scan and by the Doc wherein both of them declare that no effort is made to findout the sex of the Child, I know it was too early, but rules are rules.

I accompanied her to the Scan Room, the moment the Doc placed that device on Vanitha, I could see the sack and ’something’ in it, I was relieved. The Doc confirmed that there is a Fetal Pole and everything was fine. Then came a moment which I will never ever forget in my life, The Doc played with the machine and then we heard some noise, I guessed what it was, sounded more like a running train but it indeed was the Heart Beat of the baby. WOW what a moment, it was no more noise It was a Music, a Beautiful Music, Music so good that even if you assemble all the best musicians and singers of the world still could not beat that :)

How badly I missed my Blackberry coz Doc could not give me an Audio Copy and I could not record the Audio and Video of the same. Requested the Doc if she could play that again and this time I recorded it from Vanitha;s mobile ( Now i know that there is no Bluetooth or any other option to copy that audio file :( ) .

We then went to the Gynecologist Consultation, she saw the reports and told her that it was Eight Weeks Old and the expected date for Delivery was anytime after July 2009 :) also gave her some tablets to use only if the vomiting increases.

We enquired if she could travel as I had planned to drop her to her Mom’s house, she said that by staying there if she could have proper food, avoid excess work, avoid nausea and be with some family members then it’s a good idea.

Once once out of the Consultation Room I hugged Vanitha, she was wearing a smile, I told her that now there is another life in her, another heart beating and she now has to take special care of herself and the baby, she nodded smilingly.

Scan Positive

The Scan was positive :) Iam so excited will give the details tom :)

Another Day of Pain

Dec 19

This was another day of pain and frustration for Vanitha, She vomited thrice since morning. No matter what she has it has to come out And every time the vomiting is followed by severe cramps in her abdomen.

She is worried coz when Docs strictly tell them not to lift weights, avoid climbing stairs and so on, it is obviously not to put pressure on her abdomen but this vomiting is actually hurting her abdomen a lot.

And to add to that she feels terribly tired after that and to make it even worse feels hungry again and then the cycle continues. Tom is the scan, if it’s all good and if Doc says that she travel a bit then I would drop her to her Mom’s place.  Coz it is just not possible for her to take care of herself leave alone the house or me and nor can I be here at home looking after her, even if there is a maid servant, she can only be with her but to cook for her will not be possible and outside food is a strict NO.

Tom 4 pm is the appointment ( not exactly appointment ) but will try to convince the lab technician and make sure her scans are finished and handover reports to us by 5:30 as we have appointment with the Doc at 5:30.

Appointment for Early Pregnancy Test

Dec 18

I told Vanitha to check if we can take the appointment for 19th  instead of 20th  as were planning to drop her to her mom;s house on 20, coz alone she cannot manage here in Bangalore.

She called Wockhardt ( our Hospital for Now ) and insisted for scan with the same Lab Technician as  was recommended by Gynecologist. To our surprise there was no appointment left, everything single second of her;s was booked both on 19 & 20,  and 21 being sunday we were left no option but to go on 22, 4 more days, we were planning to prepone the scan but postpone for 3 days,Vanitha just could not take that.

She called again and some how managed to take an appointment with great difficulty but without any commitment on time. The time given is between 3 to 5 Pm and Gynecologist is in the Hospital from 5 to 8 PM. I hope things go fine and we are able to finish the Scan, Collect the Report and Meet the Gynecologist all by the same time :)

I Just hope things are fine coz a lot of dreams are at stake

A Day With a Pregnant Lady

Dec 17 – Yest

Vanitha’s health is deteriorating, Today I decided to stay back and work from home ( tried ), I did manage to get some work done, but today I had the first hand experience of what she was going through.

It was miserable even to watch must be really hard for her to go through all this.  She got up at around 6 AM, sleep walked to the kitchen and had her milk with Mother’s Horlicks ( Doc Recommended ) and then went back to sleep.  Me got up at the same time, connected my Laptop and started work early as I wanted to finish most of it as soon as possible. During this while I forget that Vanitha needs to have something every two hours, I felt that she is tired and should not be woken up for breakfast ( nor did I take any measures to buy something for her ). She got up around 10 AM, again walked to the living room with eyes half closed and told she was extremely Hungry, I did ask her if I could buy something for her, but she denied and went to kitchen to prepare breakfast – Upit / Upma.

She could not cook it but since it was absolutely necessity to have breakfast she hurried up and prepared Upma, It did not taste that good, but somehow managed to have some of it., All this while she would run to the wash basin to puke every 15 min.

After that I had got some fruits from a nearby Super Market, I peeled the Pomegranate ( Vanitha has some sort of skin problem when she peels that fruit ) and gave it to her, she managed to have half of it and the other half had forcibly with some salt and masala. That also did not make her feel better, she felt she could vomit any moment and every time she would run to the sink but nothing would come out, making her feel ever worse.

Then came the time for Lunch, again she was not in a state to cook anything, I  bought a meal from a nearby restaurant, had lil of that felt good for some time in in about 40 Min everything she ate came out, It was difficult, there was nothing I could do to make her feel better, All I could do was pat her back and give her some water but nothing to ease her pain.

Eve got some Tender Coconut Water, again she did not feel like having that, we decided to have idlies from the nearby Restaurant for dinner, she had three idlis and late night again she vomited everything she had for dinner, the entire process was very tire-full for her, she felt extremely week and a lot frustrated.

Around 2 AM she again felt hungry obvious coz everything she had had already come out, she wanted some milk, so went to the kitchen and boiled the last available milk that I could trace from the refrigerator.  She felt a lil better having milk but was worried what would she do tom, as I will not be there at home, I promised to return back from work as soon as possible. I Hope she is doing good right now .

Nausea – Vomiting during Pregnancy

Dec 16

Vanitha does not feel like having anything or going anywhere, infact her nausea is really troubling her.  She has absolutely no clue what to eat and does not feel like having anything, and no matter what she has, she feels like vomiting, but at the same time she is feeling hungry every now and then.

She is still trying to figure what can she have that can satisfy the hunger and also does not give the vomiting sensation, infact she has started to hate fruits and all those foods that she loved to have, she tried having a pinch of pickle, some  Amla, a Sip of Masala Soda or Softdrink, but nothing seems to make her feel better.

It’s a struggle for her to spend the day, somehow she is able to manage for now, hope things get better as we go along.

Just 4 more days to go, 20 Dec is “THE DATE” we are waiting, this is the day we are going to have the Pregnancy Scan to determine if everything is fine so far with her and also calculate the exact week of the baby :) Fingers crossed I hope everything is fine :)

Maternity Hospital Bangalore – Manipal , Jayanagar

Dec 14th – Manipal  - Jayanagar ( Please Note it is Malathi Manipal Hospital next to Big Bazaar )

Please Note all views are personal and I neither suggest or condemn these hospitals, please refer to your own research while choosing the same

One of my friend spoke highly about a Gynecologist in Manipal Clinic in Jayanagar, since it is a bit closer to my place we thought to give it a visit, one of the bigger draw back for us staying in Bannergatta Road is that the road which leads to Manipal Clinic is always Jammed in Traffic. We did reach there and found the list of Gynecologist and also the name which our friend mentioned.

I requested the receptionist to show me around, she told that lift was not working and made us walk to the first floor not that I mind but Vanitha had some pain, anyways we went there, the Private Room was pretty small, there was one chair next to it which can be folded as a bed ( a very small bed ), the bathroom was attached.

Then I insisted to have a look at the Birthing Suite, sightly bigger than the Private Room, there was only one Birthing Suite in the entire clinic and right next to that was the Delivery Room ( again only one ). I asked the nurse if there were more than one delivery at the same time how would you manage, since they had only one Delivery Room, she was quick to point out that they use the birthing suite in that case.

So basically there was only one delivery room and the birthing suite next to that will be used if there was a need for another delivery, and I asked what happens if we book the Birthing Suite and at that time there are two deliveries, she had some answer about patient management ( some thing like, we will do here and then shift her there , then , then ) anyways it was not very comforting,

We were asked to enquire about the package cost at the billing section, the person was polite and gave us the cost which was the most shocking, a C section there would cost Rs. 80,000 and Normal Delivery for Rs. 65,000 in Birthing Suite and Rs. 60,000 and Rs. 45,000 for Private Room, this includes the charges for just 3 days.  This does not include any Consultations or Scans, infact a Consultation would cost Rs. 300 and a Scan Rs. 750. and the C Section you can stay there only for 3 days compared to 5 days in all other maternity hospitals.

This was way too high, Common, When Wockhardt is Charging 67K for a Birthing Suite which is 10 times better than Manipal and it also includes all Consultations and Scans and Tests from Second Trimester till Delivery, infact Manipal is as expensive as Cradle but not as attractive.
